Craig Langstone
Craig is considered to be one of New Zealand’s leading insurance lawyers, and foremost earthquake litigation lawyers. For decades Craig has appeared in the High Court, Court of Appeal and New Zealand’s Supreme Court, generally as lead Counsel. Craig also has an extensive dispute resolution practice, with a particular emphasis on mediation work. Craig has been in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific Hall of Fame since 2023.
Over the past 34 years or so Craig’s practice has encompassed all manners of insurance. Craig has been involved in the areas of professional indemnity, public liability, statutory liability, D&O, property, construction, motor, product liability, fidelity, crime, health and disability, travel, material damage, business interruption and cyber insurance. As a result of his knowledge, Craig is often called upon to provide policy coverage advice, underwriting advice and to draft/redraft insurance policy wordings. He is counsel of choice for many of the larger property and construction claims in New Zealand. Clients include insurance brokers, insurers, Lloyds’ Syndicates managing agencies and start-ups. Craig also heads Fee Langstone’s team of specialists who work in the cyber insurance area with expertise in both indemnity issues and cyber claims.
As a result of his years of experience and undoubted expertise, Craig is often called upon to present to insurance industry bodies and groups. A particular highlight of Craig’s speaking repertoire was speaking at the Lloyds’ Library in London about New Zealand’s earthquake claims experience. In June 2018 Craig co-presented an Australasian Insurance Law Market Update in London in conjunction with Clyde & Co.
