How long have you been practising law, and how long have you been with Jones Fee/Fee Langstone?
I've been a lawyer since the early 1990s, which is a really long time to be practising something, isn't it? I started out working at 'the big firms' but really enjoyed the shift to the more personal environment of a smaller firm. Now I've spent more than half of my career at FL/JF.
What do you think sets FL apart from other firms?
The depth of expertise we have in our specialist area of insurance, and our size which makes us one of the larger litigation practices in New Zealand. We have a reputation for giving great advice on the most complex issues, and we attract the highest quality of work in the market because of that.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Flying. I'd never be stuck in traffic again!
If you weren't a lawyer, what do you think you'd be doing?
It's tempting to think about all the other fascinating jobs out there. In my dreams it'd be something involving travel to obscure places -- a foreign correspondent maybe, holed up in a hotel reporting on a conflict in a small African republic...But actually, I'm happy being a lawyer and I don't really see myself doing anything else.
What has been a personal highlight during your time at FL?
My highlight at the moment would have to be representing Vero with David Goddard QC in the Prattley litigation. The case involves complex issues of real importance to the insurance industry. Fingers crossed the Supreme Court sees things the same way as the High Court.
