Get to know Fee Langstone: Michelle Kilham

How long have you been practicing law, and how long have you been with Fee Langstone?

I was admitted to the Bar in March 2011 while working in in the litigation team of a large commercial law firm in Auckland.  Since then I have practised commercial litigation in boutique to mid-size firms in New Zealand and have advised on disputes across a wide range of subject matters.  I joined Fee Langstone in August 2017.

What do you think sets FL apart from other firms?

Fee Langstone has the benefit of being one of the larger litigation practices in the country while remaining a boutique and specialist law firm.  The lawyers are committed to giving their clients pragmatic and commercial advice and are real experts in their field.

Why did you decide to become a litigation lawyer?

I was interested in problem solving and English language when I was younger, but a career in law was not something I seriously considered until university where I completed a conjoint law and commerce degree.  After summer clerking in a large law firm and participating in mooting competitions at law school I found that I really enjoyed the problem solving and advocacy aspects of litigation work.

If you weren’t a lawyer what do you think you would be doing?

I think a career as a neuroscientist would be fascinating.  It would also generate much better dinner conversation.

If you could go to any country in the world, what country would it be and why?

I would love to travel to Mexico.  I am a big fan of Mexican food (which must be a lot better over there) and it would be great to experience the culture.
